Worst Line Before the Kiss

I was watching the first Dungeons and Dragons film (2000) last weekend, and the kissing scene was still as I thought it was when I first saw the movie years ago --- totally lame. What made the moment unromantic and eyebrow-raising for me was the character line before the kiss.

Lead protagonists Ridley Freeborn (Justin Whalin) and Marina Pretensa (Zoe McLellan) were both distraught and frustrated in this scene. It was just after the death of Ridley's best friend Snails (played by Marlon Wayans) and Ridley was angry and blaming the whole mage community while Marina was trying to comfort and set his head straight. It was kind of a lover's quarrel. Then after some heated exchange, both calm down a little. Ridley looks at Marina and...

Ridley to Marina: You know, for a mage, you're pretty smart.

... and then the kiss.

I didn't think it was suitable to have the kiss in this scene but the director seemed to think it was okay. A hug would've been enough. They should've saved the kiss for later, especially if they couldn't think of a better line than this. It was a really crappy moment there.
